Meet Dr. Perry
Dr. Ryan Perry is currently the LA Kings Team Chiropractor. During the hockey season he splits his time between treating the NHL players at the arena and working in his private practice in Hermosa Beach.
BACKGROUND
Ryan Perry was born and raised in a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He completed the esteemed Simon Fraser University Kinesiology program and graduated with a Bachelors of Applied Sciences. His studies focused on ergonomics, biomechanics, and exercise physiology.
Following graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to attend the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) where he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2005.
Dr. Perry then spent 2 years working and gaining experience at The Arcadia Spine Center under Dr. Robert Clarizio. There he learned how to run a successful family chiropractic office.
In 2007, Dr. Perry co-founded Pro-Active Wellness Center and was instrumental in growing the practice into a popular family wellness office incorporating chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture, pilates and massage.
In 2021, Dr. Perry decided to take his approach to a new level and partner up with the revered Dr. Frank Amato. The focus of the office is to fix the biomechanical dysfunction of the body as opposed to controlling the symptoms. This requires the highest understanding of human biomechanics and is necessary for treating sports related injuries.
Also in 2021, Dr. Perry started working with the Ontario Reign AHL hockey team. After a successful year with the Reign, Dr. Perry was promoted to Team Chiropractor for the LA Kings in the NHL. His responsibilities include treating the players during practice, before the games, during games, and after the games for various injuries. There are very few chiropractors involved in professional sports and Dr. Perry is among an elite few in this prestigious position.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE
Dr. Perry is specializes in Active Release Techniques (ART). He believes that Chiropractic University had prepared him to treat joint related conditions but ART allowed him to provide a more complete treatment to the patient.
Dr. Perry is fully ART certified in Spine, Upper Extremity, and Lower Extremity. These are the basics and all ART practitioners should have this.
He is ART certified in Long Tract Nerve Entrapments. If there is a neurological source to the patient’s symptoms, this technique allows him to accurately diagnose and treat most conditions that could cause this.
He is also ART certified in Biomechanics. This is a very advanced certification. You must show proficiency in observing a movement, accurately diagnosing the dysfunction, treat the dysfunction, and show improvement in the movement pattern. Very few ART practitioners have this certification.
He has Active Palpation and Complex Protocols certifications which focuses on differentiating slight movement differences between adjacent muscles and correcting any dysfunction.
Finally, Dr. Perry has his ART Masters certification. This means that Dr. Perry has reached the highest levels of ART and has been trained by the founder, Dr. Michael Leahy, himself.
SELECTIVE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT
In his continuing pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Ryan Perry went on to become certified in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) at The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) in Oceanside, California. SFMA is a systematic process designed to systematically find the cause of symptoms, not just the source, by logically breaking down dysfunctional patterns and diagnosing their root cause as either a mobility problem or a stability/motor control problem.
KINESIOLOGY TAPING
You may have seen professional athletes wearing different color tape on their bodies. This is referred to as Kinesiology Tape, Kinesiotape, KT Tape, or Rock Tape. Dr. Ryan Perry has both Basic and Advanced Certification in Fascial Movement Taping (FMT). FMT is specifically designed to influence injury, edema, neurologic conditions, and posture. It does this by interfacing with the mechanical, chemical and neurosensory sub-systems of fascia.
ADDITIONAL TECHNIQUES
Dr. Perry also is certified in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM). Some people know this as Graston or Gua Sha. It is the use of a stainless steel tool to treat soft tissue injuries.
He also has been trained and utilizes the Activator Method as well as SOT Blocks to create movement in the joints of patients who are either uncomfortable with the traditional chiropractic adjustment or have a condition that would contraindicate it, such as osteoporosis or osteopenia. Dr.Perry regularly uses these techniques on some of the LA Kings players before the games.
